The box is measured and marked on a solid cedar board, then the first cuts for bending the corners are made.

The inside of the box is textured with an adze.

Each corner is steamed to soften the wood fibers for bending.
After steaming, each corner is carefully bent, clamped into position and allowed to dry.
Once the box has dried in it's final shape, the outside corners are cleaned up.

The bottom is routed to provide a tight fit with the box.
A cedar board is scribed to fit the box.
The bottom is glued and clamped to the box.
The outside of the box is sanded smooth in preparation for further carving and decoration.
A top is crafted, and the inside is carved out for a tight fit over the box.

The basic structure of the box is complete.
